Art Residencies

This page brings together the artistic residencies I have participated in over recent years. Each residency represents a period of focused research, experimentation, exchange, and production within a specific place and context.

Through these residencies, I have developed new works, engaged with local communities, taken part in public talks and events, and expanded my practice through dialogue, travel, and site-specific exploration.

Bilbao, Spain

I was selected to participate in the Moving Artists Residency, which took place from 23 November to 29 November 2025 in Bilbao, Spain. During the residency, I explored the city and its cultural context, including visits to institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum, while engaging in artistic exchange and research.

As part of the program, I participated in the public event “Art Beyond Fire”, where I joined a panel discussion on Art as an Act of Resistance. During the residency, I also developed a new sound installation titled "I Want to Speak", presented as an artistic intervention for the event, focusing on voice, resistance, and the urgency of expression.

Miechów, Poland

I participated in the XXVI International Outdoor Painting Event “The Colours of Lesser Poland”, held from 26 July to 18 August 2025 in Miechów, Poland. The residency was hosted by The Office of Artistic Exhibitions “U Jaksy” and curated by Paweł Olchawa.

During the residency, I worked alongside artists from Poland, Kurdistan, Serbia, Slovenia, Italy, Macedonia, and Croatia, engaging in an intensive period of artistic exchange and collaboration. I developed five new paintings, created within a temporary workspace located inside a bus station, responding to the surrounding environment and its social dynamics. The works were presented as part of the final exhibition featuring all participating artists.

The residency offered a meaningful space for cultural dialogue, shared practice, and connection, contributing to lasting professional relationships and new directions within my painting practice.

I was based in Kraków, Poland, from 27 March to 8 April 2025 in connection with the exhibition Ego Sum, presented at the Palace of Fine Arts (Pałac Sztuki Kraków) in collaboration with ZR Art Gallery. The exhibition was curated by Wacław Kuczma, in cooperation with Ziyad Raoof and Dorota Kuczma.

During this period, I produced a new installation titled Qazwan Rosary, and exhibited four works in total, including three paintings from the Beyond Gender Molds series. In addition to my own artistic production, I worked closely with the curator, assisting in the exhibition process and engaging in in-depth discussions around curatorial decision-making and the presentation of artworks.

This experience provided a valuable opportunity to deepen my understanding of curatorial practice, exhibition-making, and the spatial and conceptual framing of artworks within an institutional context.

Warsaw / Łódź, Poland (with research visits across Europe

From 14 September to 13 November 2024, I was based in Warsaw and Łódź, Poland, in connection with the production of a new work for the Future Generation Art Prize exhibition at PinchukArtCentre. Although my initial plan was to travel directly to Kyiv, visa complications led to an extended research and production period in Poland.

During this time, I actively explored Warsaw’s contemporary art scene, attending exhibitions, museums, Warsaw Gallery Weekend, and the opening of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw’s new building. I met with curators and art professionals, including Inge Lāce from PinchukArtCentre, and engaged in ongoing curatorial dialogue.

During my time in Poland, I also visited Kraków, where I met Ziyad Raoof, collector and Kurdistan Regional Government Representative in Poland, and undertook further research trips to Vienna, Prague, Venice, Florence, and Rome, expanding the residency’s scope through exposure to diverse artistic and historical contexts.

I completed the production of the installation InBetween in collaboration with the PinchukArtCentre team, and also undertook a three-day residency at the Museum of Art (Muzeum Sztuki) in Łódź, further enriching this period through institutional exchange and research.
